If you’re looking for a good, reliable 9mm handgun and don’t want to pony up $400 – $600 for the latest, greatest, brand new wonder gun, here’s a deal you might just want to take a look at. Outdoor Sports USA has got a limited number of used Smith and Wesson Model 5906 pistols for sale.
Some of you are probably scratching your heads and saying, “Fifty-nine what?” The 5906 is a third-generation S&W semi-auto pistol chambered for 9mm and sporting a 15-round magazine. Although they’re out of production (Smith and Wesson made them from 1989 to 1999), they’re excellent guns. I carried one as a rookie police officer many years ago and really liked it. In fact, my good experience with my 5906 is one of the reasons I favor S&W autos now.
The 5906 is all stainless steel, which means it’s heavy – almost 2 1/2 pounds unloaded (in our department we gave it the nickname “Boat Anchor”). It’s a full-sized 9mm with a four-inch barrel and ambidextrous safety/decocker. Like all Smith and Wesson semi-autos manufactured during that time period, the 5906 features a magazine safety interlock which prevents it from being fired if the magazine is removed.
If you’re in the market for a rock-solid, reliable 9mm to use as a house gun (or even to carry), you won’t go wrong with a 5906. The guns for sale over at Outdoor Sports USA are law enforcement trade-ins, which means they’re used but in very good condition. They’re priced at $347.99. Considering I’ve seen used 5906’s sell for up to $600, this is a pretty good deal. Go check it out today.
